Our favourite locations in Morocco

Marrakech

Fabulous, over the top city, devoted to the pursuit of pleasure. Excellent restaurants, wonderful hotels and Riads, and all the night life you would expect. Legendary shopping, easy access for day trips to the Atlas mountains, and the best air links.

Fes

Possibly the worlds best preserved medieval city. Ringed by tall walls, the old town functions as it did centuries before; craftsmen sit in their shops and make and sell their wares. The grandest Moroccan architecture. Fantastic palaces and forts. Fes is also famous for its cuisine. Easy access to the ski slopes at Ifrane.

Essaouira

An Atlantic port built by the Portuguese. Fabulous architecture, great fish. Miles of endless sandy beach. Made popular by Jimi Hendrix and Cat Stevens in the late 60s, it still retains a relaxed air.

Oulidia

Oulidia has a natural 10 km long spit of land, creating a peaceful salt water lagoon, remote from the Atlantic rollers and protected by vast cliffs, with a single narrow opening to the sea. The area is a nature reserve, produces superb seafood (the oysters are particularly famous) and has a charm somehow reminiscent of southern Africa.

M’hamid

The desert beyond this village offer the best in terms of tranquillity and traditional desert scenery that we have yet found. A mixture of hamada (stony desert) and the classic ‘sand sea’ of dunes. What it lacks is easy access, so mass tourism is still kept at bay.

Merzouga

The nearest settlement to Erg Chebbi, the largest dunes in Morocco. Rising to a height of 150 metres, these majestic dunes offer incredible vistas, particularly at sunrise and sunset. The Paris-Dakar rally often crosses this area in January. We also explore the lesser known eastern slopes of the dunes.
